Ōpunakē Primary is a school with a long history of providing exceptional educational opportunities for its students. Our commitment to academic excellence is matched by our commitment to celebrating and preserving our dual cultural heritage.
At Ōpunakē Primary, we have a strong focus on developing our local curriculum to ensure our students are well-equipped to succeed in an ever-changing world. Our recent Matariki/Puanga Celebration is a great example of this, with our students attending school at 6am in the morning to take part in the festivities. We believe that embracing our dual cultural heritage is the key to our future success.
Ōpunakē Primary is an inclusive school that focuses on the holistic development of each student. We are committed to providing a safe and stimulating learning environment, where creativity and collaboration are fostered. Our school culture is one of respect, understanding and inclusivity and we strive to ensure each student feels valued and supported.
Central to our teaching philosophy is the Tuakana/teina model, which encourages students to work together and learn from each other. This model creates a powerful learning environment, where senior students can gain leadership experience and mentor younger students. All students are actively encouraged to take responsibility for their learning and reach their potential.
