Kapahaka, Te Reo and Tikanga Maori
"Whāia te iti kahurangi ke te tūohu koe me he maunga teitei.
Aim for the highest cloud so that if you miss it, you will hit a lofty mountain."
Our Kapahaka group performed at the Taranaki Puanga Festival in Waitara.
Ka pai nga tamariki. E whakahīhī ana mātou ki a koutou katoa mō koutou kaha ki runga i te atamira.
Well done children. We are proud of you all for you strength on the stage.
Bede, Otto, Ellahzae and Caliyah were asked to perform a haka powhiri in Stratford. We felt slightly under dressed for the occasion, so we decided to make our own video in the park. Next time we will know what to expect! Thank you to our team for putting their best foot forward.
At Te Kura Tuatahi o Opunake we provide the opportunity for all tamariki to acquire knowledge of Te Reo Māori me ōna Tikanga. we are striving as a school to revitalise and embrace the Māori language and culture and support its development. we adopt and foster the tuakana-teina teaching and learning relationships with our tamariki, while embracing a vision of whanaungatanga together as one. we show spirits of openness and a genuine willingness to bring this vision to its completeness.
Each week our students from our students from Year 4-8 are eligible to join our kapahaka group. the group is led by Matua Clive Tonga and Wharekuka Tonga. The students learn a combination of waiata, poi, pareti/pareta and haka.
