The Thinkers Theories-

The Six Thinking Hats

Edward De Bono
Edward De Bono encourages children to use a variety of thinking hats to look at a problem or issue from many perspectives. This theory teaches children that there is more than one way to find solutions. To encourage children to think in different ways children are taught to use six hats. The problem is then viewed from six different perspectives.

Howard Gardener
Howard Gardener encourages us to identify our strengths, and to improve intelligences we may not use so readily. Gardener acknowledges that we all have different strengths and areas of expertise and most importantly that difference is good. His theories enable students to realise we are all intelligent in different ways. He believes there are eight intelligences.

Art Costa
Art Costa teaches us that we need to develop ‘Habits of the Mind’. His theory is that thinking skills are ‘taught not caught’. By improving the way we think we are better able to think through situations and problems.
